Believing & Receiving
2
All who receive him are those that believe in his name
  • John 1:12-13
  • Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
3
We receive the Spirit when we believe
  • Galatians 3:2,5
  • I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?
4
We receive the Spirit by Faith
  • Galatians 3:14
  • He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
5
Having believed, we are sealed with the Spirit
  • Ephesians 1:13
  • And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,
6
The Spirit is given to the believers after Christ is glorified
  • John 7:37-39
  • On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

7
"By this he meant the..."
  • By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.

8
"Up to that time the..."
  • Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

9
The Spirit was not given until Pentecost
  • Acts 2:1-4
  • When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
10
Now we can receive the Spirit as soon as we believe
  • Ac.11:14-16 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.' "As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'
11
We are saved when we receive the Spirit and are Born Again
  • Titus 3:4-6
  • But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,  he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,  whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,
12
We are saved when we are baptized in the Spirit
  • 1Peter 3:20-21
  • ……in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,  and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,  who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand--with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
13
We become part of the Body when we believe and get baptized
  • 1Cor 12:13
  • For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
