Deu 32:17 They sacrificed to demons, which are not God-- gods they
had not known, gods that recently appeared, gods your fathers did not fear.
Demons are not God but sometimes they become the object of worship.
Behind every idol, there is a demon or an evil spirit. Sometimes we
cherish certain beliefs which are not true. This can become a form of
idolatry.
Psa 106:37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.
Sacrificing your own children to and idol, false god or demon is an
extreme manifestation of demon possession. Demon possession is not always
so obvious.
Mat 4:24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought
to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain,
the demon-possessed, those having seizures,
and the paralysed, and he healed them.
Note: from this verse, it may be seen that diseases, pain, demon
possession, seizures and paralysis are not the same yet all require healing
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not
prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out
demons and perform many miracles?'
We are not saved by our works but by faith in Jesus Christ's atoning
sacrifice. God knows our heart. God is more concerned with our
inward condition than our outward works. This does not mean that works are
not important; God will reward believers according to their works. In
fact, faith without works is dead.
Mat 8:16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought
to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word
and healed all the sick.
Jesus cast demons out by Speaking to them. The demons recognized
his authority. They already knew what he stood for. All he had to do
was tell them to leave.
Mat 8:28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes,
two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs
met him. They were so violent that no one
could pass that way.
Violence is a manifestation of demon possession.
Mat 8:31 The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive
us out, send us into the herd of pigs."
Demons can live in animals.
Mat 8:33 Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported
all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed
men.
Mat 9:32 While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed
and could not talk was brought to Jesus.
Demons can affect our behaviour and speech
Mat 9:33 And when the demon was driven out,
the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, "Nothing
like this has ever been seen in Israel."
Demons can make people mute.
Mat 9:34 But the Pharisees said, "It is by the prince of demons that
he drives out demons."
Angels and demons are in opposition to one another. One wants to
free us, the other wants to enslave us. Only opposing forces try to cast
each other out. They fight for the right to occupy a person. Satan
would not try to cast out himself.
Sometimes it is hard to
pinpoint exactly what it is that needs to be cast out.
We
need to be specific when we try to cast something out.
Mat 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,
drive out demons. Freely you have received,
freely give.
Healing the sick, raising the dead and driving out demons are not the
same although there may be some overlap.
Mat 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say,
'He has a demon.'
If you try to cast a demon out when there is not one there, then it is
likely that you have the demon.
Mat 12:22 Then they brought him a demon-possessed
man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could
both talk and see.
Demon possession affects our perception and our behaviour.
Mat 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only
by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow
drives out demons."
Mat 12:27 And if I drive out demons by
Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be
your judges.
Mat 12:28 But if I drive out demons by the
Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
There is a constant battle between the kingdom of God and the kingdom
of Satan.
Mat 15:22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying
out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter
is suffering terribly from demon-possession."
The ultimate consequence of demon possession is suffering. Once
it has been conceived, it gives birth to sin and suffering.
Mat 17:18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and
it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.
Once you have pinpointed a demon, rebuke it.
Mark 1:32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all
the sick and demon-possessed.
To be healed, we need to come to Jesus. It is difficult to heal
somebody who is not willing to be set free. Demons cloud a person's
perception.
Mark 1:34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He
also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak
because they knew who he was.
If you discerned the presence of demon, don't let them speak, they will
just tell lies. Just tell them to go.
Mark 1:39 So he travelled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues
and driving out demons.
Jesus drove out demons when he preached. The demons knew what
Jesus stood for by his preaching. When the demons were exposed, he just
had to tell them to go.
Mark 3:15 and to have authority to drive out
demons.
Jesus gave the disciples authority to cast out demons.
Mark 3:22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem
said, "He is possessed by Beelzebub ! By the prince of demons he
is driving out demons."
Mark 5:12 The demons begged Jesus, "Send
us among the pigs; allow us to go into them."
Demons can live in animals. Demons like the water. The
demons caused the animals to drown.
Mark 5:15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who
had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and
in his right mind; and they were afraid.
It is possible for one person to have thousands of demons.
Mark 5:16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened
to the demon-possessed man--and told about
the pigs as well.
Mark 5:18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been
demon-possessed begged to go with him.
Mark 6:13 They drove out many demons and
anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.
Mark 7:26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She
begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
If we as Jesus to set us free, he will set us free.
Mark 7:29 Then he told her, "For such a reply, you may go; the
demon has left your daughter."
We need to believe what he says.
Mark 7:30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and
the demon gone.
Mark 9:38-40 "Teacher," said John, "we saw a man driving
out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was
not one of us." "Do not stop him,"
Jesus said. "No one who does a miracle in
my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, for whoever is not
against us is for us.
Non Christians can do God's will without realizing it, but they do not
have the authority to do so as they, themselves are deceived.
Mark 16:9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he
appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.
Mary had seven demons!
Mark 16:17 And these signs will accompany
those who believe: In my name they will drive
out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
To those who believe and a born again, Jesus
gives us the authority to cast out demons
If you are not a believer, you do not have the
authority to cast out demons.
Luke 4:33 In the synagogue there was a man
possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of
his voice,
Evil spirits and demons are on in the same.
Luke 4:35 "Be quiet!" Jesus said sternly.
"Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the
man down before them all and came out without injuring him.
There is no point listening to demons once you have identified them.
Just tell them to get out.
Luke 4:41 Moreover, demons came out of many
people, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them
and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ.
When demons feel threatened they often shout; be firm and tell them to
go
Luke 7:33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking
wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.'
The people who falsely accused John most likely had a demon
Luke 8:2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and
diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven
demons had come out;
Mary became a faithful servant of the Lord once her demons had been
cast out
Luke 8:27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed
man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes
or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs.
Demons do not care about you. They will see you homeless,
desolate and without clothes.
Luke 8:29 For Jesus had commanded the evil
spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and
though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken
his chains and had been driven by the demon into
solitary places.
Demons will keep you in chains and isolate you.
Luke 8:30 Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"
"Legion," he replied, because many demons
had gone into him.
A person can have many demons; each bringing with it a lie or a false
belief. People who have multiple demons have a delusional system which
keeps them in bondage. Demons like to co-inhabit because a system of lies
is stronger and harder to confront or correct than a single false belief.
Luke 8:32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside.
The demons begged Jesus to let them go into
them, and he gave them permission.
Generally, it is not good to listen to Demons, let a lone give them
what they want. In this situation, Jesus may have wanted to show the
disciples what happens when you give demons what they want.
Luke 8:33 When the demons came out of
the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank
into the lake and was drowned.
Luke 8:35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When
they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons
had gone out, sitting at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind;
and they were afraid.
Luke 8:36 Those who had seen it told the people how the
demon-possessed man had been cured.
Luke 8:38 The man from whom the demons had
gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,
Luke 9:1 When Jesus had called the Twelve together,
he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases,
This authority was passed on to all believers.
Again, this passage shows that demon possession and diseases are not the same.
Diseases are physical, demons are spiritual. Mental illness often results
from demon possession.
Luke 9:42 Even while the boy was coming, the
demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But
Jesus rebuked the evil spirit, healed the boy and gave him back
to his father.
Demons can influence behaviour and have physical consequences.
Luke 9:49-50 "Master," said John, "we saw a man driving
out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is
not one of us." "Do not stop him,"
Jesus said, "for whoever is not against you is for
you."
Psychologists, counselors and psychiatrists try to cast out demons buy
correcting false beliefs (cognitive behavioural therapy and psychoanalysis) but
the patient does not always trust them or recognize their authority. Non
believers do not have the same authority as a believer.
Luke 10:17 The seventy-two returned with joy
and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."
Luke 11:14 Jesus was driving out a demon that
was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the
crowd was amazed.
Luke 11:15 But some of them said, "By Beelzebub, the prince of demons,
he is driving out demons."
Luke 11:18 If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom
stand? I say this because you claim that I drive
out demons by Beelzebub.
Luke 11:19 Now if I drive out demons by Beelzebub,
by whom do your followers drive them out? So then, they will be
your judges.
Luke 11:20 But if I drive out demons by the
finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you.
Luke 13:32 He replied, "Go tell that fox, 'I
will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third
day I will reach my goal.'

the crowd answered. "Who is trying to kill you?"
John 8:48 The Jews answered him, "Aren't we
right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?"
John 8:49 "I am not possessed by a demon,"
said Jesus, "but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.
John 8:52 At this the Jews exclaimed, "Now
we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the
prophets, yet you say that if anyone keeps your word, he will never taste
death.
John 10:20 Many of them said, "He is demon-possessed
and raving mad. Why listen to him?"
John 10:21 But others said, "These are not
the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of
the blind?"
Acts 19:13 Some Jews who went around driving
out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those
who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul
preaches, I command you to come out."
Rom 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither
angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
1 Cor 10:20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans
are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants
with demons.
1 Cor 10:21 You cannot drink the cup of the
Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's
table and the table of demons.
1 Tim 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon
the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things
taught by demons.
James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons
believe that--and shudder.
Rev 9:20 The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues
still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop
worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood--idols
that cannot see or hear or walk.
Rev 16:14 They are spirits of demons performing
miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world,
to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.
Rev 18:2 With a mighty voice he shouted: "Fallen! Fallen is Babylon
the Great! She has become a home for demons and a
haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.
EVIL SPIRIT
Judg 9:23 God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the citizens
of Shechem, who acted treacherously against Abimelech.
1 Sam 16:14 Now the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and
an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him.
1 Sam 16:15 Saul's attendants said to him, "See, an evil spirit from
God is tormenting you.
1 Sam 16:16 Let our lord command his servants here to search for
someone who can play the harp. He will play when the evil spirit from God
comes upon you, and you will feel better."
1 Sam 16:23 Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would
take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better,
and the evil spirit would leave him.
1 Sam 18:10 The next day an evil spirit from God came forcefully
upon Saul. He was prophesying in his house, while David was playing the
harp, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in his hand
1 Sam 19:9 But an evil spirit from the LORD came upon Saul as he
was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand. While David was playing
the harp,
Mat 12:43 "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through
arid places seeking rest and does not find it.
Mark 1:23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by
an evil spirit cried out,
Mark 1:26 The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of
him with a shriek.
Mark 3:30 He said this because they were saying, "He has an evil
spirit."
Mark 5:2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit
came from the tombs to meet him.
Mark 5:8 For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you evil
spirit!"

little daughter was possessed by an evil spirit came and fell at his feet.

and I know about Paul, but who are you?"

the house naked and bleeding.

to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
Mark 1:27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other,
"What is this? A new teaching--and with authority! He even gives orders
to evil spirits and they obey him."
Mark 3:11 Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before
him and cried out, "You are the Son of God."
Mark 5:13 He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out
and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed
down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

gave them authority over evil spirits.

is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits
and they come out!"
Luke 6:18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.
Those troubled by evil spirits were cured,
Luke 7:21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses
and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind.
Acts 5:16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing
their sick and those tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were healed.

and cripples were healed.

him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil
spirits left them.
Rev 16:13 Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they

out of the mouth of the false prophet.

by the devil.

on the highest point of the temple.

him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.

you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his
angels.

him until an opportune time.

not believe and be saved.
John 6:70 Then Jesus replied, "Have I not chosen you, the Twelve?
Yet one of you is a devil!"
John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry
out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding
to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his
native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 13:2 The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already
prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus.

was to destroy the devil's work.

the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is
not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.

or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.
Rev 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake
of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown.
They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
SATAN
1 Chr 21:1 Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take
a census of Israel.
Job 1:6 One day the angels came to present themselves before the
LORD, and Satan also came with them.
Job 1:7 The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan
answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth
in it."
Job 1:8 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant
Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a
man who fears God and shuns evil."
Job 1:9 "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.
Job 1:12 The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he
has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger." Then
Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

the LORD, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him.

in it."

though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason."
Job 2:4 "Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has
for his own life.

LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick
snatched from the fire?"
Mat 4:10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written:
'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"
Mat 12:26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself.
How then can his kingdom stand?
Mat 16:23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan!
You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of
God, but the things of men."
Mark 1:13 and he was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan.
He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord.

for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together
again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

unaware of his schemes.

of light.

and again--but Satan stopped us.
2 Thes 2:9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with
the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs
and wonders,
