The Millennium

nav End Times Theology The Great Tribulation The Second Coming / the Day of the Lord The Millennium The Reward of Believers - The Judgment Seat of Christ Then judgment of unbelievers - The Great White Throne Eternity: The New Heaven and the New Earth, The New Jerusalem, The New Nations & The Lake of Fire

The Millennium

The Millennium refers to a 1000 year period during which Christ Reigns with All Born Again Believers in Heaven over the Purified Nations on the Earth (Pagans who were kind to God's people during the Great Tribulation ie the sheep) and a select 144000 Jews (God's People) who repopulate the Earth during the Millennium

The Millennium fulfills Old Testament and New Testament Prophesy before all of God's people are brought together for Eternity

The Millennium follows the Great Tribulation and the Second Coming of Christ

After the Millennium is over, the devil is thrown into the lake of fire, the Kingdom is handed back to the Father and God makes all things new

All believers who were Born Again under the Old and the New Covenant (Circumcised or Baptized) will be combined into one New Jerusalem after the Millennium where God will dwell with them for Eternity and they will be able to freely partake of the fruit of the Tree of Life

The Bible does not reveal many details about the Millennium or it's function.  All those who have been saved over the ages will be resurrected and called up to be with Christ after their death (the First Resurrection).  They will be joined by Christians who are redeemed (raptured/Harvested) from the Earth during the Great Tribulation (144000 + The Great Multitude).

When Jesus returns, ALL believers (Resurrected from the Dead or raptured from the Earth) will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ where they will be judged for the things that they have done whilst in the body.  ALL believers will reign with Christ for a thousand years (The Millennium) and during this period will be rewarded for their service in the body.  Those who have been more faithful will be given more responsibility.  (For example, some will reign over ten cities on the Earth, others five.)

Only Born Again Believers will go to Heaven to reign with Christ. They will be the Wife of the Lamb (The Bride of Christ). They are destined to become the New Jerusalem in the New Heaven and Earth.

All those who have been Born Again over the Ages will take part in this First Ressurrection or will be raptured from the Earth during the Great Tribulation at the second coming of Christ before the Millennium starts. Those who are not Born Again will be ressurected at the End of the Millennium (a second ressurrection) and will stand before the Great White Throne where the pagans (also call nations, gentiles, non-believers) are judged.

Born again believers are, therefore, raptured or resurrected to be judged before the Millennium at the Judgment Seat of Christ. The pagans (unbelieving nations/gentiles) are not resurrected for judgment until after the Millennium. Those who are alive when Christ returns on the Day of the Lord will be divided into the Sheep and the Goats.

Each of us will be Judged according to what we have done. Whether we stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ or the Great White Throne depends on whether we are a Child of God; Saved by Faith (which is by Grace and not by Works).

After God redeems His people at the end of the Great Tribulation, He will pour out his Wrath upon the Pagan Nations who are left on Earth.  Those who survive God's Wrath will go on into the Millennium as the Purified Nations who surround God's people (the 144000 Jews who are sealed and protected from God's Wrath) and go up to Jerusalem every year to celebrate the feast of the Tabernacles. (Blessed are those who reach the end of the 1335 days)

Christ will separate the Nations into the 'Sheep' (who were kind to God's People) and the 'Goats' (who persecuted God's People) when he comes on the Great and Awsome Day of the Lord. (The Battle of Armageddon) The 'Goats' will go to Hades and the 'Sheep' will receive a reward prepared for them since the beginning of time. Their reward will be to continue as the Nations during the Millennium and into Eternity.

All whose Names are not in the Lamb's Book of Life will be thrown into the Lake of Fire. Those who worship the Beast and receive his Mark will not be in the Lambs book of Life. There will be people from the Nations who do not receive the Mark of the Beast. (like the Born Again Believers, some of them will refuse to worship the Beast too). If their names are in the Lambs book of life when they are raised for Judgment at the Great White throne after the Millennium is over, they will not be thrown into the Lake of Fire but will continue as the Nations in Eternity.

At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be set loose for a brief period to try and deceive the Nations who are living on the Earth. (Satan's Final Rebellion)  He will cause many of the Nations to march against the Camp of God's people (the descendants of the 144000 Jews who were sealed by God and protected from God's wrath and became God's people during the Millennium). This is the Battle of Gog and Magog at the End of the Millennium. God intervenes before the devil can hurt God's People on the earth and the devil is eventually thrown into the Lake of Fire (where the Beast and the False Prophet were thrown at the Battle of Armageddon before the Millennium Started).

When Christ returns at the end of the Great tribulation, only believers, dead and alive are called up to be with Him.  This is the First Resurrection and the Rapture of the Great Multitude.

Those who did not take part in the first resurrection will resurrected at the end of the Millennium to be judged at the Great White Throne.  Those whose names are not written in the Lamb's book of life will be sent to hell.  Those who persecuted the Church and/or Worshipped the Beast and received his mark will be thrown into the Lake of Fire. Death itself will also be thrown into the Lake of Fire.

ALL believers will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ and will reign with Christ for a 1000 years in Heaven. They are the Priests of God who came to Life and Reigned with Christ for the 1000 years. After the Millennium, they will descend from Heaven as the Bride of Christ to become the New Jerusalem on a New Earth where God lives with them for Eternity.

All authority will be given back to the Father once everything is made subject to Christ. God and the Lamb will continue to reign over the New Heavens and New Earth for ever on one throne!

Those who are not condemned at the Great White Throne will become the Nations in Eternity. The Nations do not come out of Heaven. They are not God's people. They were not Born Again believers. The Nations in the New Earth must be in the Lamb's book of life as they have not been thrown into the Lake of Fire. Therefore, they must not have worshipped the Beast. (In other words, some pagans who rejected the Gospel will not worship the Beast and will be kind to God's People. They will be the Sheep (as opposed to the Goats) on the day of the Lord and will survive God's Wrath to become the Nations on Earth during the Millennium.

Only Born Again believers will go to Heaven and reign with Christ during the Millennium. They will be the Wife of the Lamb which is the New Jerusalem in Eternity.

The Nations will be outside the New Jerusalem but will be allowed to enter the City of the New Jerusalem and have access to the Leaves of the Tree of Life only.

The Nations in Eternity are not as privileged as the people in the New Jerusalem who are continually in God's presence and get to eat freely of the Fruit of the Tree of Life.

The Leaves of the Tree will be given to the Nations for Healing.

THE LAST TRUMPET HERALDS THE BEGINNING OF CHRIST'S MILLENNIAL REIGN

Rev 11:15-19  The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying: "We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.  The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great-- and for destroying those who destroy the earth."  Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm.

The believers will be raise up first and judged by Christ at his judgement seat.  If you take part in the first resurrection, you will not go to hell.

The unbelievers are not raised until the end of the thousand years - they are judged at the Great White Throne - they wait in Hades until Judgment Day

AT THE LAST TRUMPET, THE DEAD IN CHRIST AND THOSE SAINTS WHO ARE ALIVE WHEN CHRIST RETURNS ARE RAISED IMPERISHABLE IN THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE

1Cor 15:51-52 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

1Thes 4:13-18  Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.  We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.  According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.  For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.  Therefore encourage each other with these words.

THOSE WHO TAKE PART IN THE FIRST RESURRECTION WILL NOT SUFFER THE SECOND DEATH

Rev 20:6  Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

THE BELIEVERS ARE JUDGED FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE WHILST IN THE BODY OF CHRIST AT THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST

Rom 14:10  You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat.

2 Cor 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

THE SAINTS WHO ARE KILLED DURING THE GREAT TRIBULATION COME TO LIFE AND REIGN WITH CHRIST FOR A THOUSAND YEARS

Rev 20:4  I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Rev 20:5  (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.

SOME OF US WILL BE ALIVE WHEN CHRIST RETURNS AT THE END OF THIS AGE

1Cor 15:51-52 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

THOSE THAT ARE ALIVE WILL NOT PRECEDE THOSE THAT HAVE DIED

We that are alive will not precede those that have died in Christ.  We will be called up to be with them in the clouds and we will remain with Christ for ever.

This verse tells us that we will all reign with Christ when he redeems us from the earth at his second coming (if we do not fall away).

CHRIST WILL NOT RETURN UNTIL THE MAN OF LAWLESSNESS HAS BEEN REVEALED

2Thes 2:1-13  Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come.
Don't let anyone deceive you in any way,
for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.  He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?  And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.  For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.  And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.  The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,  and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.  For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.  But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

WHEN HE COMES HE WILL OVERTHROW THE LAWLESS ONE WITH THE BREATH OF HIS MOUTH AND THE SPLENDOR OF HIS COMING

2Thes 2:7-10 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

2Thessalonians 2:8 tells us that the Lord will overthrow and destroy the man of lawlessness by the breath of his mouth and the splendor of his coming.  This can leave us with no doubt that Christ's return is at the end of the great tribulation which is the beginning of his millennial reign.  People who teach post millennialism are thus in error. We, the believers, are not in heaven and the devil is not locked up in the abyss where he can no longer cause trouble. Thus the millennium cannot have started.  The Bible therefore foretells of the premillennial return of Jesus Christ.  The return of Christ and the Millennium are, no doubt, in the future (at the time of writing of this document!).

DANIEL'S VISION OF THE ANTICHRIST AND HIS DOWNFALL AFTER TIME TIMES AND TIME AND A HALF FOLLOWED BY THE ETERNAL KINGDOM OF THE ANCIENT OF DAYS

Dan 7:1-28  In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying on his bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream.  Daniel said: "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea.  Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea. "The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a man, and the heart of a man was given to it. "And there before me was a second beast, which looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, 'Get up and eat your fill of flesh!' "After that, I looked, and there before me was another beast, one that looked like a leopard. And on its back it had four wings like those of a bird. This beast had four heads, and it was given authority to rule. "After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast--terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns. "While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth that spoke boastfully. "As I looked, "thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze.  A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened. "Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire.  (The other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed to live for a period of time.) "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. "I, Daniel, was troubled in spirit, and the visions that passed through my mind disturbed me.  I approached one of those standing there and asked him the true meaning of all this. "So he told me and gave me the interpretation of these things: 'The four great beasts are four kingdoms that will rise from the earth.  But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it forever--yes, for ever and ever.' "Then I wanted to know the true meaning of the fourth beast, which was different from all the others and most terrifying, with its iron teeth and bronze claws--the beast that crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left.  I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and about the other horn that came up, before which three of them fell--the horn that looked more imposing than the others and that had eyes and a mouth that spoke boastfully.  As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them, until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom. "He gave me this explanation: 'The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it.  The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings. He will speak against the Most High and oppress his saints and try to change the set times and the laws. The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time. "'But the court will sit, and his power will be taken away and completely destroyed forever.  Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be handed over to the saints, the people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.'  "This is the end of the matter. I, Daniel, was deeply troubled by my thoughts, and my face turned pale, but I kept the matter to myself."

MULTITUDES WHO LIVE IN THE DUST OF THE EARTH WILL AWAKE : SOME TO EVERLASTING LIFE AND SOME TO EVERLASTING CONTEMPT

Daniel 12:1-13  "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then.   But at that time your people--everyone whose name is found written in the book--will be delivered.  Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.  Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.  But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge."  Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank.  One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?"  The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, "It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed."  I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, "My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?"  He replied, "Go your way, Daniel, because the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end.  Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand. "From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days.  Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. "As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance."

Those who wake to everlasting contempt are not raised until the end off the millennium

THE DEVIL IS BOUND UP FOR THE DURATION OF THE THOUSAND YEARS WHERE HE CAN'T DECEIVE ANYBODY

Rev 20:2  He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.

Rev 20:3  He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

AT THE END OF THE THOUSAND YEARS SATAN IS THROWN INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE AFTER BEING SET LOOSE FOR A BRIEF PERIOD

Rev 20:7-10  When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison  and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth--Gog and Magog--to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.  They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.   And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

AT THE END OF THE MILLENNIUM, CHRIST HANDS THE KINGDOM BACK TO THE FATHER

1Cor 15:25-28  Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.  For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.

Christ is a member of the trinity (the Triune God we worship), yet he is distinct from the Father.  Christ must hand all authority back to the Father in fulfilment of prophesy.

(Psalm 110:1 The LORD (Jehovah) says to my Lord (Adonai -that is Jesus): "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.")

At the End of the Millennium, Christ will hand the kingdom back over to the Father. The Millennium is therefore the only way that this prophesy can be fulfilled if Christ is to reign at his coming and the believers are to reign with him.  The Millennium is the period for which the Believers are differentially rewarded according to what they have done whilst in the body.  People who preach amillennialism usually don't preach about the reward of believers and Christ handing things back over to the father once the devil has been thrown into the lake of fire.

A DAY IS LIKE A THOUSAND YEARS TO THE LORD

2Peter 3:8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

2Peter 3:8 says that a thousand years are like a day to the Lord.  The old testament has many types and patterns that are seen in the New Testament. God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th.  We are now 6000 years approximately since Adam.  It may be that Christ will reign in the Seventh millennium, after all, the Son of man is Lord of the Sabbath (Matt 12:8 Mark 2:28 Luke 6:5)

The Millennium (The 1000 year reign of Christ) Part 1

When Christ comes unexpectedly at the end of this Age, He will redeem his people from the Earth.
The dead in Christ will rise first followed by those who are alive in Christ. This is the first ressurrection and the rapture (or the Harvest) at the End of the Age.
Hence, all believers will be called up to be with Christ when he returns and they will remain with Him forever. (1Thess 4:17)
They will stand before The Judgment Seat of Christ and will reign with him for 1000 years in Heaven over the Nations on Earth and will be rewarded for the things that they have done in the Body.
When Christ returns with his army of Believers, he will defeat the Beast and the False Prophet and the Kings of the Earth. He will separate the nations into the Sheep and the Goats.
The Dead outside of Christ will not be raised until after the Millennium.
Satan is bound for the duration of the Millennium and then is released for a brief time before being thrown into to the Lake of Fire where the Beast and the Antichrist were thrown.
At the End of the Millennium, the Dead in Hades and the Sea will be raised for Judgment at the Great White Throne. Those whose names are not in the Lamb's Book of Life will be thrown into the Lake of Fire which is the second death.
Death itself is thrown into the Lake of Fire.
Finaly, when all things have been put under Christ's feet, the Son hands the Kingdom back to the Father.
God then makes all things New.
The New Jerusalem descends from heaven as a Bride beautifully adorned for her husband.
God lives with Man on Earth in the New Jerusalem which is composed of New and Old Testament believers.
The Nations are outside but are allowed to bring their glory into the New Jerusalem once a year and are given the Leaves of the Tree of Life for healing.

The Millennium (The 1000 year reign of Christ) Part 2

The Bible begins and ends with God creating (or recreating) the heavens and the earth the way He intended it to be. In the third chapter of the Bible (Gen 3), Satan enters to corrupt mankind and lead man away from God's purposes. Not surprizingly, it is in the third last chapter of the Bible (Rev 20) that Satan exits (he is thrown into the Lake of Fire along with Hades and death and all those whose names are not in the Book of Life). In between the first three chapters and the last three chapters of the Bible, God sets about redeeming man and restoring man to his purposes and in so doing, brings Glory to Himself.
If Satan would like to remove one chapter from the Bible, it would be the third last one; the one in which he is judged and thrown into the Lake of Fire. This is also the Chapter that deals with the Millennium. The Millennium reveals how God deals with His people and the People of the World (ie the Nations). If Christians are to go to heaven after Christ returns, it will be during the Millennium.
It is during the Millennium that Christians are rewarded for the things that they have done in the body. When Christ returns at the beginning of the Millennium, the Nations will be sorted into the Sheep (who were kind to God's people) and the Goats (who persecuted God's people).
At the End of the Millennium, all enemies are put under Christ's feet and Jesus hands the Kingdom back to the Father. God then lives with man in the New Jerusalem on a New Earth surrounded buy the Nations who refused the Mark of the Beast and were kind to God's people during the Great Tribulation.

The Millennium (The 1000 year reign of Christ) Part 3

The Millennium is mentioned six times in the third last chapter of the Bible. Peter also makes reference to a day being like a thousand years. God created the world in six days and we are about six thousand years from Adam! Is Christ about to return? Is the final millennium about to start? The Millennium is important because it helps tie together all the teachings of the Bible.
